Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. These words rang through my head as I finished up the editing on this session. Shortly before Thanksgiving, I was contacted by someone who was looking for a photographer to donate a session to her friend, whose daughter was dying from leukemia. I met with the family earlier this week and was charmed by sweet little Lily. She was in pain, but you could still see the spunk and fight in her.

As I sat down this morning to finish editing the images, I logged onto Lily’s website and was saddened to see the message posted by her parents – that Lily had passed away peacefully last night. Lily was just over a year old and had spent the last 8 months fighting AML-Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Chemo and a bone marrow transplant didn’t do the trick… the disease was aggressive in recurrence. Today Lily flies with the angels… I am thankful to Amanda for reaching out to me and putting me in touch with her friends – I will hold a part of Lily with me forever as I remember her firm grasp on my finger as we said goodbye.

Okay, no more excuses – I know I have not blogged in a long time! Facebook has won out and I’m posting on the Studio JE Fan Page alot more than here. I’ll be revamping the website and blog into one seamless site for 2011 so in the meantime, I’ll just try to get a few older sessions posted here to get caught up.

We had our annual Holiday mini sessions in Old Sac last weekend and the setting did not disappoint! The weather was just gorgeous and so were my subjects! First up is the fabulous Ruckman Family. These kids are pros at posing for me now. They are getting so grown up – it’s amazing to see the changes from year to year.

Okay, I know it has been AGES since I’ve posted an update. I apologize for being gone. I have been spending some quality time with family and getting the school year and Girl Scout year wrapped up, and have been shooting less. Summer time is bringing a busier portrait schedule so I’ll have more to share with you but in the meantime, I had to share these image that I am so excited about!

Those who know me know that I don’t normally shoot weddings. I choose to focus on children and families, but this was an exception because my beautiful sister-in-law Allie married her prince Charming, Michael. The big day was yesterday – and I gotta give props to all my wedding photog friends out there. Weddings are HARD WORK under the best circumstances and I am feeling my age today. All that running around, up and down, tippy toes, bending over, etc. YIKES.

Still, Michael and Allie, I hope you love your images as much as I do. I have been a part of your family for so long that this was my pleasure and honor to be the one to capture these images on your special day. Enjoy your honeymoon at Disney World. Here are a few sneak peeks – I’ll have the rest done as soon as I can!

This is a shot from the balcony of the church. The day was bittersweet because Allie’s dad (my father-in-law) passed away several years ago. She had her three brothers give her away instead. (That’s my sweetheart on her right!)

After the guests have left the church and we have a few private moments on the altar, Michael steals a quick kiss from his new bride.

Chris & Ney {San Mateo Engagement Photography}

I met Chris and Ney for their engagement shoot at Central Park in San Mateo. We hit up the beautiful Japanese Tea Garden and then the rest of the lovely park areas. Chris is my cousin so we go way back but this was my first time meeting Ney. They are an absolutely delightful couple and I cannot wait to see them get married in July!

I know I am sorely overdue for a blog update! I think I took a little too much of a siesta after the holiday madness! I have been busy with planning some updates for the website and blog, have a new logo, and some new pricing and collections for the spring! I’m also dabbling in a few small wedding bookings this year! Recently, I also got some new equipment and will be testing all that out. More will come soon, but for now, let me leave you with some images from these past few months…

This first one is my gorgeous nephew, Caleb. He was about 5 months old in this shot. He’s a much bigger boy now, but this is one of my favorites so I’m sharing it!

Here is our sweet puppy EJ, who is no longer puppy-sized! These are him at about 6 months old. He’s going to be such a monster when full-grown, but as you can see from these photos, he’s more clown and crazy than mean and aggressive. He’s proving to be quite the watchdog and loves to look out for us. We just love him to bits.

I’ll be back soon (PROMISE!) with a few more shots of the kids this spring. And then next week, I hope to get back to some more regular blogging with some of my recent work.

Sorry it has been too long since I have posted a blog update. It’s definitely the busy holiday season! We kicked off the first weekend of November with a Portraits in the Park mini-marathon! Nine families over 2 hours — I may have to rethink the timing for the future, as I am not in shape for this! Here are the first two families – beautiful!!!

If you would like to purchase holiday cards with your session, you must book a session for no later than November 22. If you want prints or other products for holiday gift giving, the deadline to order is December 7. Anything after that *may* or may not be accommodated, depending on our schedules, and a rush fee will apply. Get it done and out of the way early – contact me today!
